WHICH TIMBER TREATMENT IS RIGHT FOR YOUR JOB?

Similarities

While they may be two different products, there is a lot of overlap between our Proper & Super Post fencing treatments

1. Both products are made using kiln-dried, imported pine posts. This premium wood, sourced from regions with optimal growing conditions, offers exceptional durability and grain structure. The kiln- drying process further enhances its resistance to rot, decay, and insect infestation. This combination of high quality wood and advanced treatment ensures that these posts are built to last, providing long lasting protection and guaranteed performance.

2. Both treatments are applied through a pressure treatment process. This involves forcing the preservative deep into the wood fibers under intense pressure, ensuring maxumum protection against rot, decay and insect infestation. As we wanted full control over the process, we have heavily invested in both a Tanalith E and Tanasote pressure treatment facility onsite, ensuring all of our products are of the highest quality

3. Both of these products are used for outdoor application. Their ability to withstand moisture, extreme temperatures, and UV rays, ensures the longevity and durability of outdoor structures, making them both ideal choices for fencing, decking, gates and other outdoor applications.

4. Demonstrating a commitment to quality and adherence to industry benchmarks, these products have achieved NSAI certification. Their TAMS Grant Approval further underscores their recognised value and suitability for agricultural applications, as acknowledged by the scheme.

Differences

1. Tanalith E is a water based preservative, while Tanasote is a copper oil based treatment. Unlike water based preservatives, the copper oil is an active ingredient, offering long lasting durability as it cnotinues to treat the timber. Both products are highly effective in protecting wood from rot, decay, and insect infestation.

2. As previously mentioned, the copper oil in Tanasote is an active ingredient, meaning that it will continuously protect the timber. For this reason, our Super Post’s boast a service life of 40 years, and a warranty of 25. This is slightly longer than the service life of 25 years and warranty of 15 years offered on our Proper Posts.

3. One of the most noticeable differences between the products is the colour of the posts. Super Post starts as a vibrant emerald green, which gradually fades to a warm honey brown over time. This natural colour change adds a touch of rustic charm to your outdoor space. Proper Post, on the other hand, comes in a standard brown colour. It can, however, be treated with a Tanatone dye to achieve a classic creosote like appearance.

4. Unlike creosote, both Tanasote and Tanalith E are significantly more environmentally friendly and safer for both humans and animals. Horses, in particular, might be tempted to crib on Tanalith E treated wood (although it won’t harm them), but Tanasote isn’t remotely appealing to them, making it even more environmentally conscious.

Choosing the Right Option for You!

Some factors that may influence your decision are:

Budget: Super Post is a more expensive product. However, they are also a more cost-effective choice based on their service life and warranty.

Aesthetic Preferences: Consider the desired colour and finish of your fence. Do you mind the green colour? Would you like to add a Tanatone dye to your Proper Post to get a creosote like look?

Specific Needs: Some factors will influence which product is better for you specifically. For example, if you have horses, Super Post is probably the better product because they won’t crib it. Whereas, if you’re doing a small fence job around your garden, you might prefer Proper Post.

In conclusion, both Super Post and Proper Post are excellent choices for your next fencing project. The best option for you will depend on your budget, aesthetic preference and specific needs. By carefully considering these factors, you can select the perfect fencing material to enhance your outdoor space.
